Dental Implants Can Restore One or More Lost Teeth
Missing one or more teeth in your mouth can be a serious cause for concern. Beyond limiting your ability to chew food, it can also slur your speech and mar your smile. A little over twenty years ago, dental implants were used primarily to replace a single lost tooth. Over time implant technology and techniques have grown so that now they can be used to mount one or more permanent bridges or create anchor points for locking dentures.
A dental implant is little more than a titanium abutment that is screwed into a narrow socket made in your jawbone. Titanium is known to be biologically safe. In time the titanium implant will fuse to bone structure of your jaw in a process known as osseointegration.
Once the titanium abutment is secured in place and fused with the surrounding bone tissues, one of The Chicago Family Dental Center’s dentists can fit you for a standard crown. If you are missing multiple teeth in one part of your mouth, you will need two abutments implanted, then a dentist will install a bridge onto them.
If you are missing one or more teeth in your mouth, and you’re interesting in addressing the problem with dental implants, you should call The Chicago Family Dental Center’s office in Chicago, Illinois at 312.551.0500 to explore your restoration options.
